Latest news: Skills Academy expands reach

Creative & Cultural Skills has announced its academy is set to appoint ten associate members over the next three months, which could benefit those hoping to work in the industry. 22/05/2012

The Skills Academy is Creative & Cultural’s network of UK and international partners, who work together to improve the provision of training and skills for the industries and ensure courses and qualifications help young people secure jobs.

Its offerings include industry-led careers events, specialist vocational qualifications and The Backstage Centre, a rehearsal and training space for industry professionals and students.

Creative & Cultural Skills has invited further education providers to apply to become associate college members, intending to make appointments by September.

The aim of the expansion is to increase its employer base to include areas such as cultural heritage, museums, jewellery and design.

Pauline Tambling, joint chief executive officer of the body, said, ‘Our National Skills Academy partnership of 20 founder colleges working with industry members has proved to be a highly successful way of establishing our creative apprenticeships, industry-endorsed careers activities and new ways of learning about our industries.’

Organisations already part of the network include Live Nation, Palace Theatre, Savoy Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company. Leeds City College, Liverpool Community College and City of Westminster College are just some of the founder colleges.
