High jumper Isobel Pooley is aiming to qualify for the Olympics this weekend at the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Visa Outdoor Athletics Championships. 04/05/2012
GB U20 international Isobel, a first year biosciences student from the University of Nottingham, recently won gold at the BUCS Indoor Athletics Championships in Sheffield and is confident of adding to her recent success.
Isobel said, ‘I’ve been training really hard and I’ve improved so much over the last few months, I’m just looking for an opportunity to show the world what I can do.’
Her current personal best height is 188cm and she will need to achieve at least 192cm if she is to qualify for this summers Team GB squad.
‘It’s a real opportunity for me this weekend to get those extra few centimetres that could potentially take me to the Olympic Games,’ added Pooley.
Seen as the finale of Universities Week 2012, the BUCS championships will be acting as the test event for London 2012 and will be held at the Olympic Stadium. Over 56,000 tickets have been sold for the championships with the stadium expected to be at half capacity on Saturday night when Isobel competes.
The event will start on Friday 4 April and finish on Monday 7 April.
