Latest news: UK manufacturing on the rise

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) announces the creation of 1,000 new jobs at its Halewood plant in Merseyside. 15/03/2012

The announcement comes just a week after Nissan pledged it’s commitment to the British automotive industry by investing £125m into its plant in Sunderland.

JLR’s HR director Des Thurlby said, ‘These 1,000 new jobs are further evidence of JLR’s clear ambition for continued growth. We are moving Halewood to three shifts and 24-hour operation to meet increased global demand for our products.’

In response, Dr Neil Bentley, deputy director-general for the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) said, ‘The news is a shot in the arm for UK manufacturing and the automotive industry in particular. Jaguar Land Rover continues to be a great British success story, which provides a real boost to its supply chain and the wider economy.’

Jobs recruited will include production operators, supervisors and engineers, with the new workers supporting the ongoing demand for the Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Freelander 2 models. All new employees joining the production line will receive training towards an intermediate (Level 2) apprenticeship.

Those interested in the new positions should visit Jaguar Land Rover careers for more information.
