Latest news: Wanna be a hack?

Prospective journalists are being offered the chance to promote their credentials and learn new skills by becoming the next set of journalists on the Wannabe Hacks website. 04/08/2011

The media blog has followed five would-be journalists attempting to break into the industry through a variety of means, including internships, journalism courses and freelancing.

The venture has been a success, attracting attention from industry experts and commentators and securing employment for its creators. Consequently, they are looking for a new generation of journalists to take over control of the site.

‘Although tinged with a little sadness, this announcement is a really exciting moment for us. We always said we wanted the site to be passed onto the next generation of aspiring journalists, and, as each of us starts to get a job, we’re arguably no longer ‘wannabes’ in the classic sense of the word,’ they posted on the site.

The positions are open to applicants from around the country who are able to work approximately eight hours per week on the site.

Applications for the position opened on Monday 1 August, with those interested asked to send in a CV, a sentence about what they would be doing in September and 100 words on what they would bring to the venture.

Applications close on the 14 August, with the new Hacks set to take over on the 5 September in time for the new academic year.
