A team of three students from the University of Huddersfield has been crowned the winner of CIMs annual marketing competition. 14/03/2012
Each year The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) invites marketing students to develop and pitch a campaign. This year CIM collaborated with The Diabetes Awareness Group.
The winning pitch was presented by Collette Allen, Jack Taylor and Rebecca Hall, who fought off competition in the final from three other teams and more than 45 teams in total from across the country to win the coveted prize.
Jack Taylor of ‘Team Envision’ said, ‘We are thrilled to win The Pitch 2012 and gain recognition from experts in the marketing industry. We’re looking forward to working with the Diabetes Awareness Group to further develop the campaign and hope this will provide a way into the industry.’
The winning campaign to ‘Peg diabetes back’ aimed to capture people’s attention by posing simple questions in public places. It related specifically to Type 2 diabetes, which can be treated through exercise and diet change.
The group received praise by a panel of four judges from the medical and marketing field, which was chaired by Dr Rowan Hillson MBE, the national clinical director for diabetes. Hillson said, ‘It is fantastic to see students taking an interest in diabetes and creating marketing campaigns that succinctly highlight issues in the very complex area of health management.’
Launched in 2008, The Pitch is an annual competition which ensures young marketers can showcase and develop their skills and gain vital experience which will help in industry. James Sutton, acting CEO of CIM said, ‘I have been really impressed by the quality of the pitches this year. If Pitch 2012 is reflective of the standard of marketers coming through into industry, the future is looking very bright for the profession.’
