Exchange programmes
- Schemes such as the Leonardo da Vinci Programme
can help with information on short placements and small-scale collaborative projects, which can involve spending some time in a European country.
- If you are already in a job with an employer who has a branch, office, headquarters etc. in Luxembourg, you can ask about possible temporary transfers if you want experience of working there.
Teaching schemes
- If you want to be involved in teaching, a small number of opportunities may exist in higher education. Jobs are advertised on institution websites.
- Vacancies as teaching assistants can arise periodically.
Volunteering
Volunteering opportunities exist in Luxembourg, in some cases working for large international organisations concerned with issues such as the environment or human rights. Graduate standards of education may be required for some roles.
Casual work and short-term opportunities
- A number of employers in both the public and private sectors recruit staff on short-term contracts.
- Some posts require specific skills and experience and many are advertised in the press or on websites such Transitions Abroad
. However, some can be found through informal, networking contacts.
- Some employers, such as EU institutions, have specific processes for recruiting temporary staff (such as through a centralised personnel office) and eligibility criteria will apply.
- Semi-skilled and unskilled job vacancies are also available in some sectors, many on a seasonal basis.
- There are some opportunities to work or study in Luxembourg for short periods. Look out for terms such as 'Praktikum' or 'stage’.
Gap year opportunities
The range of employing organisations in Luxembourg means that gap year opportunities can be found. Well-planned speculative approaches to employers can be used to locate jobs, although recruitment agencies may also advertise jobs. See gap year for more general advice and links to gap year providers.
