Opportunities for promotion are limited in both the public and voluntary sectors, and you may have to move to another geographical area. Due to the broad nature of the term community work, it is feasible that workers could develop their careers by moving into other fields such as education, environment, social work, youth work or the health sector. There are also opportunities for overseas development work.
