Entry requirements
PhD: The normal minimum entrance requirement is an upper second class honours degree or master's degree, relevant to the proposed area of study, from a recognised higher education institution in the UK. You should also have experience of academic research in the previous four years, normally in the form of either a master's degree in research methods, an undergraduate degree with a research element in the final year, or work-related experience with evidence through research reports. Course description
Work in this area is wide-ranging and the Department of Psychology has a strong reputation for innovative and policy-relevant high quality research. As with applied cognitive research, the department offers a vibrant and collegial research culture with a track record of externally funded projects. In the area of occupational psychology there are close links with colleagues in The Open University Business School. The International Centre for Comparative Criminological Research also provides a framework for collaborative research activity, ensuring a vibrant and supportive structure for those undertaking PhD study. Potential research projects - The application of psychological knowledge and principles to real-world contexts, including legal and policing issues. - Dual tasking capabilities affected by cognitive abilities. - Learning and problem solving in complex, real world domains. - Occupational psychology, especially in relation to human resources management, policy and their effects. - Experiences of organisational recruitment; relationship between identity, experience and motivation in organisations. - Use of the internet as a tool for primary quantitative psychological research, including methodological issues of validity and ethics.
