Course description
Research in Greek and Latin texts includes work in all the main genres (epic, lyric, comedy, tragedy, historiography and philosophical texts) and includes philological and textual analysis as well as the relationship between texts and social and cultural contexts. If you would like to join us as a full- or part-time research student please contact the Department of Classical Studies for an informal preliminary discussion. A well-thought out research proposal which sets out specific research questions and your strategies for addressing them will enhance your chances of admission and we are always glad to offer advice in advance (for example on how your project might enhance existing work in the field and what facilities you would need; what ancient and/or modern language ability you need for your project; and how you could participate in the department's research culture and debate with students in other universities).

We have several new academics in the department as well as existing staff publishing cutting edge research that is opening up new fields, so we especially welcome applications in Greek comedy and humour studies; Greek epic and its reception; Greek historiography and medical texts; Latin poetry and Augustan literature; and Digital Classics.
