PhD: The normal minimum entrance requirement is an upper second class honours degree or master's degree, relevant to the proposed area of study, from a recognised higher education institution in the UK. You should also have experience of academic research in the previous four years, normally in the form of either a master's degree in research methods, an undergraduate degree with a research element in the final year, or work-related experience with evidence through research reports. Course description
Professor Peter Taylor is internationally known for his work on substitution pathways at silicon centres. This has resulted in the development of novel silsesquioxane cage materials and caged fluoride ion compounds. The work on enzymic methods of organosilicon polymer synthesis has led to groundbreaking work on the use of phage display methodologies in the formation of nanoparticulate metals. Eleanor Crabb and Elaine Moore investigate, experimentally and computationally, the fuel-cell catalytic potential of metal deposition on secondary metal surfaces. Ellen Heeley investigates the development of polymer morphology using thermal, light, neutron and X-ray scattering techniques.
