PhD: The normal minimum entrance requirement is an upper second class honours degree or master's degree, relevant to the proposed area of study, from a recognised higher education institution in the UK. You should also have experience of academic research in the previous four years, normally in the form of either a master's degree in research methods, an undergraduate degree with a research element in the final year, or work-related experience with evidence through research reports. Course description
The research interests of members of the Department of History in this area range widely, from manufacturers to masculinity. Dr Robin Mackie specialises in business history, and relations between industry and science. Dr Donna Loftus covers the nineteenth century, with a particular focus on masculinity. Dr Chris Williams specialises in English social history, while Dr Janice Holmes extends departmental interests to modern Irish history, women's history and history of religion. Students may benefit from links with interdisciplinary research groups in policing and crime.
