Course description
This area focuses on research that will help managers to make the most appropriate use of current and future technological resources. Research is carried out in a wide variety of settings from manufacturing companies to public-sector service providers. The management of technology is best seen as an integrative process rather than a functional activity and this is mirrored in the research carried out. An interdisciplinary approach, often using case study methods, is particularly applicable in this area so applicants from a wide range of backgrounds, especially those with experience of working in organisations, are welcomed. Potential research projects * Innovation management in the NHS, particularly in relation to adoption of emerging technologies by healthcare organisations, and investigation of the role of clinicians in leading changes to healthcare process and structures required, in order to mobilise knowledge and implement new technologies. * Technology transfer, knowledge management and development of technological capabilities in healthcare organisations. * The formulation, implementation, evaluation and impact of e-government, e-democracy and e-enabled organisational change in the public sector. Potential supervisors * Dr Alison Bettley * Professor Joyce Fortune * Dr Ivan Horrocks * Professor Geoff Peters * Dr Clive Savory
