Current Registration on the appropriate Nursing
Division of An Bord Altranais Active Register, and
- Two years post-registration clinical experience since
first registration, and
- Twelve months' experience (within last two years) in
the appropriate speciality at the time of application
or otherwise satisfy the selection committee
they have the relevant clinical experience for the
programme, and
- An honours degree in nursing or a related discipline
or equivalent professional and academic qualification,
or
- Otherwise satisfy the selection committee that they
have the academic ability to successfully complete
the programme.

Course description
The aim of these programmes is to facilitate the qualified
nurse working in specialist areas to become a more
knowledgeable, analytical, reflective practitioner who
can assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist
nursing care based on research and evidence-based
practice. The specialist programmes are comprised
of two core modules, three specialist theory modules
and one clinical module. The core modules are: Theory
and Practice of Research Methods for Health Care and
Leadership and Quality Improvement in Health Care.
Programme Content
All students undertake both core and specialist
components. Students also undertake a clinical
component relevant to their speciality strand.

- Emergency Department Nursing (St James's
Hospital, AMNCH Tallaght and James Connolly
Blanchardstown)
- Cardiovascular Care Nursing (St James's and AMNCH
Tallaght)
- Intensive care nursing (St James's, AMNCH Tallaght
and James Connolly Blanchardstown)
- Orthopaedic nursing (AMNCH Tallaght)
- Renal nursing (AMNCH Tallaght)
- Haematology nursing (St James's and AMNCH
Tallaght)
- Peri-operative nursing (St James's and AMNCH
Tallaght)
- Advanced Anaesthetic/Recovery
- Advanced Children's (AMNCH Tallaght only)
- Advanced Surgical
