  1. Biological Sciences

    MRes

University of Manchester - Faculty of Life Sciences

The one-year Masters of Research (MRes) degree is an innovative route to starting out on a research career and every year about 20 students enrol on our MRes degree. Students taking the MRes are provided with the opportunity to experience research projects over a broad range of disciplines and laboratory environments.

  2. Animal Behaviour with Ornithology

    MSc

Manchester Metropolitan University - Department of Environmental and Geographical Sciences

This course offers graduates from Human Nutrition, or an appropriate science subject the opportunity to progress into community, industrial, research or academic positions in the health and nutrition sector. Throughout the course you will examine the evidence supporting the relationship between nutrition, health and lifestyle.

  3. Animal Behaviour

    MSc / PGDip / PGCert

Manchester Metropolitan University - Faculty of Science and Engineering

This course examines the interaction between environment, experience and physiology in the development and dynamics of behaviour in laboratory, field and captive situations. You will cover how the principles of animal behaviour can be applied to practical problems such as animal welfare and conservation.

  4. Neuroscience and behaviour

    PhD / MPhil

The Open University - Department of Life Sciences

Our research focuses on the fundamentals of neurobiology and how they relate to behaviour. Key themes of our research are: neuronal structure and development; neuropathology and glial cell biology; neurophysiological and functional imaging measurements of the human brain; biochemical, electrophysiological and behavioural aspects of learning, memory and attention; and genetic, biological and cognitive underpinnings of disorders across the lifespan, including autism, dementia, Huntington's disease, and ADHD.Potential research projects An online study of repetitive activities and circumscribed interests in autismCurrent / recent research projects Investigating Sensory and Motor Deficits in ADHD Neurofeedback for the Treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Depression and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Cognitive deficits in Huntingdon disease Exploring the Broader Autism Phenotype in Simplex Versus Multiplex Autism Families

  5. Cognitive Brain Imaging

    MSc

    University of Manchester - Psychology

The MSc is aimed at graduates with a scientific training (e.g. in physics, computer science, mathematics, medicine, psychology, neuroscience, pharmacology, engineering etc) interested in a career where brain imaging forms a major focus.Designed specifically to provide the student with the skills to carry out cognitive brain imaging work in healthy individuals and in patient populations. Issues relating to the optimisation of fMRI and EEG data acquisition and analysis will be explored with focus on the cross-talk between the physics of the scanning environment, the psychology of the experimental design and the neuroanatomy and neurophysiology of the human brain.

  6. Medical Mycology

    MSc / PGDip / PGCert

University of Manchester - School of Medicine

This programme has been specifically designed for graduates who wish to develop their skills as mycologists. The programme aims to result in a significant level of theoretical understanding and practical skills, which will be important for those wishing to follow a career in clinical sciences or academic and industrial research in the UK or overseas.

  7. Neuroscience

    PhD / MPhil

University of Manchester - Faculty of Life Sciences

There is significant interaction between systems, cellular and molecular neuroscientists in the Faculty of Life Sciences to deliver a wide range of projects focused on research into the cellular and molecular mechanisms of neuronal regulation and neurodegeneration in the CNS and PNS. A major focus is to understand processes of neurodegeneration in order to uncover aetiology and/or treat the common diseases of the nervous system, for example Alzheimers, Parkinsons disease and stroke.

  8. Biotechnology and Enterprise

    PhD

University of Manchester - Faculty of Life Sciences

The aim of the Biotechnology and Enterprise PhD programme is to provide extensive training in research skills, through the completion of a substantive research project. Students will also acquire the entrepreneurial skills required for the commercialisation of scientific discoveries through the completion of a series of course units and workshops which will take place over the 3.5yr period of the degree.

  9. Clinical Biochemistry

    MSc

University of Manchester - School of Medicine

Clinical biochemistry applies basic biochemistry and analytical chemistry to medical diagnosis, treatment and management. It provides a sound, objective basis on which to gauge the extent of a clinical disorder, the biochemical consequences of a particular disease process, and the response to therapy.

  10. Trauma and Orthopaedics

    MSc / PGDip / PGCert

University of Salford - School of Health Sciences

3 good reasons to study Trauma and Orthopaedics at Salford:You will be taught by consultant surgeons and other specialists in practice, with surgical simulation sessions at MediaCityUKGain an orthopaedic and sports trauma focus with hands-on surgical skills workshops and a clinical case approachBenefit from blended part-time distance learning element designed to fit in with your clinical commitmentsThis course has been produced in consultation with clinical specialists to ensure that it provides the appropriate content for orthopaedic trainees and advanced therapists to progress in orthopaedics in the current climate. Not only will you have input from our own, highly experienced staff, you will also be taught by clinical experts who are in current practice.
