Astrochemistry is the study of molecules in space, how they form, where they form, and what role they play in shaping the formation and evolution of astrophysical systems, particularly in star and planet formation. The chemical interactions between atoms, ions, and molecules in both the gas and solid phase span from the coldest, darkest regions of space, known as the interstellar medium, right to the surface of planets, where such processes may be key in astrobiology ?

Research in medicinal chemistry and diagnostics is focused on two main areas, bio-medicinal chemistry and analytical science applied to diagnostics. Bio-medicinal research is largely, though not exclusively, directed toward various aspects of cancer, including development of molecules for cell recognition, modification of nucleic acid bases, imaging and targeting of cancer cells (e.g. photodynamic therapy), and small molecule therapeutics.

This approach underpins studies ranging from evolutionary and population biology to the analysis of changes that result in cancer development or the identification of critical genetic factors relevant to personalised medicine.

Our goal is to understand the fundamental biochemistry and cell science that underlies normal development and that goes awry during human diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer disease, Fanconi anaemia, Kallmann syndrome, heart disease and ischemia.
