MPhil / PhD
The Open University - Department of Physics and Astronomy
Astrochemistry is the study of molecules in space, how they form, where they form, and what role they play in shaping the formation and evolution of astrophysical systems, particularly in star and planet formation. The chemical interactions between atoms, ions, and molecules in both the gas and solid phase span from the coldest, darkest regions of space, known as the interstellar medium, right to the surface of planets, where such processes may be key in astrobiology ?
MPhil / PhD
The Open University - Department of Chemistry and Analytical Science
Research in medicinal chemistry and diagnostics is focused on two main areas, bio-medicinal chemistry and analytical science applied to diagnostics. Bio-medicinal research is largely, though not exclusively, directed toward various aspects of cancer, including development of molecules for cell recognition, modification of nucleic acid bases, imaging and targeting of cancer cells (e.g. photodynamic therapy), and small molecule therapeutics.
MPhil / PhD
University of Liverpool - University of Liverpool
Comparative genomics represents the analysis of DNA sequences from different organisms, allowing us to understand how individuals differ or species have diverged. This approach underpins studies ranging from evolutionary and population biology to the analysis of changes that result in cancer development or the identification of critical genetic factors relevant to personalised medicine.
MPhil / PhD
University of Liverpool - School of Biological Sciences
Our goal is to understand the fundamental biochemistry and cell science that underlies normal development and that goes awry during human diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer disease, Fanconi anaemia, Kallmann syndrome, heart disease and ischemia. Our research programmes, which are generously funded through grants from the BBSRC, EPSRC, Wellcome Trust, Cancer Research UK, Royal Society and other charities, span disciplines from essential protein biology and glycobiology to cell signalling and gene regulation.
PhD / MPhil
University of Liverpool - Department of Chemistry
Staff in the Department of Chemistry have a broad range of research interests providing opportunities for postgraduate research leading to the award of MPhil and PhD. The Department is well equipped with state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, analytical services and specialist instrumentation within research groups. Programme outline: Chemistry MPhil/PhDThe Department benefits from online subscriptions to a vast number of primary research journals and access to online databases to facilitate your literature searching.
PhD / MPhil
The Open University - Department of Chemistry and Analytical Science
Research in the Department of Chemistry is focused on two main areas, biomedicinal chemistry and analytical science, with an additional area of materials chemistry. Biomedicinal research (Yao, Missailidis, Bruce, Trigiante) forms part of the research effort of the inter-faculty Biomedical Research Network, and is largely, though not exclusively, directed toward various aspects of cancer, including development of molecules for cell recognition, modification of nucleic acid bases, imaging and targeting of cancer cells, and small molecule therapeutics.
PhD / MPhil
The Open University - Planetary and Space Sciences Research Institute - PSSRI
The goals of the Planetary and Space Sciences Research Institute's postgraduate cosmochemistry programme are to undertake research projects that further our understanding of the origin of the Solar System through laboratory studies of extraterrestrial materials: meteorites, lunar samples, cosmic dust and samples returned by spacecraft. We study the processes by which planets and small bodies evolved to their present state; obtain information about the origin and formation of the Solar System and the time scales involved; and determine the past activity of the Sun.
PhD / MPhil
Liverpool Hope University - Biology
In addition to undertaking their research project all MPhil and PhD students are required to complete a Postgraduate Research Development Programme before they can submit their thesis. The programme offers a mixture of subject specific and generic research training, as well as a range of transferable skills.
