Hidden vacancies

Knowing the right person in Turkish society is extremely important in order to find the right job. Turks refer to a 'torpil' - the person you might know on the inside and who is able to put you in touch with the right person or even offer you work themselves. Many vacancies are not actually advertised but are filled by word of mouth or by relative connections. This is not the case for multinational companies working in the country but certainly is true for much of the less formal private and even public sector. It is possible to make speculative applications much like you would in the UK, by composing an introductory covering letter which details the type of experience you have and the roles you are looking for, along with your CV.
