Academic and research excellence

Established in 1884, Bangor University combines traditional academic excellence with cutting-edge research and equipment. Over half of the Schools assessed to date in the teaching quality assessments have received the top rating of 'excellent', while the latest Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2008) has confirmed Bangor's status as a research-led university with an international perspective. World-leading research was identified in all of its 19 assessed subject areas.

The University has exceptionally high standards across a wide range of subjects, offering over 150 postgraduate taught and research degrees across the Arts and Sciences.

Postgraduate scholarships

The University offers a variety of tailored postgraduate bursaries and scholarships throughout the year, allowing numerous opportunities for UK, EU and international students to partially or fully fund their postgraduate study. In addition, funding worth thousands of pounds is also drawn down from Research Councils, the European Social Fund and various other organisations that are keen to invest in the University's diverse expertise.

Living in Bangor enables students to combine a high-quality educational experience with a wonderful living environment. Bangor is regarded to be amongst the UK's best university locations, situated in North Wales between the mountains of Snowdonia and the Irish Sea and offering some of the finest beaches and most dramatic scenery in the country, as well as an abundance of historical sites of national importance.

Low cost

Bangor is recognised as being one of the least expensive places to be a student in the UK. Accommodation costs are typically between £50 and £100 per week, and the compact nature of the city means that transport costs are also minimal.

Accessible

Bangor is well-connected to the UK's transport network, lying within 90 minutes of Liverpool and Manchester, 2.5h from Birmingham and 3h from London by direct train. Connections with Ireland are easy too - Bangor is only 25 minutes from Holyhead Ferry Port - and there are daily commercial flights between Anglesey Airport (20 mins from Bangor) and Cardiff.

Work has begun on one of Bangor University's most exciting projects in its history - a world-class Arts and Innovation Centre set in the heart of Bangor. The project, known as Pontio (Welsh 'to bridge'), aims to connect the arts, technologies and sciences in a unique complex that also engages students, businesses and the local community. The building will house a new theatre with improved facilities, a multimedia centre, a studio theatre, facilities to show films, open foyer access areas and social spaces. Plans include a 500+ seat theatre, rehearsal studio, and an outdoor amphitheatre, all accompanied by exciting new social facilities including bars, dining and park areas. Built with the local community, families, children as well as wider national and international audiences in mind, the Centre will become a welcoming place for all to enjoy and be amazed!
