At Birmingham City University, we've been educating professionals since 1843. Our commitment to developing graduates with the skills and experience employers need means that within six months of leaving us, 93 per cent of postgraduates are in employment or further study (DLHE survey 2011/12).
Our graduates are shaping the world already: holding senior positions in global companies, creating award-winning entertainment, teaching in world-class universities, policing the capital, and designing accessories for celebrities and royalty. Find out more about our graduates shaping the world.
Our teaching excellence and ground-breaking industry collaborations are renowned, with almost 40 professional accreditations for our courses from bodies such as Ofsted, ACCA and Skillset Media Academy, while our world-leading research ensures pioneering teaching and state-of-the-art facilities for students at all levels.
Many of our lecturers have extensive experience in industry and the professions, and maintain close links with these organisations, providing students with an insight into the latest trends in the sectors they hope to enter.
We are constantly investing in our estate and are currently in the process of spending £260 million on new facilities. A flagship extension to our City Centre Campus is our latest ambitious venture, with the first students having arrived at our new Parkside Building - home to our design and media courses - in September 2013.
Construction on a second phase of the development is currently under way, to accommodate business, English, law and social science students from 2015, as well as providing new library, IT, student support and social facilities. It's no surprise that the independent Complete University Guide placed us in the UK top 10 for spending on facilities in both 2012 and 2013.
You will find over 100 courses to choose from at Birmingham City University, including taught degrees up to Master's level and independent preparation of a thesis, leading to a research degree.

More about postgraduate study at Birmingham City University.
In some fields, such as academia, a postgraduate qualification is a requirement, while for others it may prove highly useful; for example, a PGCE is often the easiest way to enter teaching if your degree is not in education or a related subject, while an MBA may be the best route to acquiring the skills required in certain high-flying business roles.
According to the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services, there are an increasing number of occupations where employers require a postgraduate qualification, including law, engineering, teaching, professional psychology roles, teaching, international development and NGOs, technical roles in the environment profession and quantitative roles in investment banking. They also found that a student with a postgraduate degree was 12 per cent more likely to be in employment or further study than someone with just a degree and 26 per cent more likely to be in a professional or managerial role.
And those employers that need this additional expertise are increasingly prepared to pay for it. Research by the Sutton Trust in 2013 found that someone with a Master's degree earns £5,500 more per year, or over £200,000 over a 40-year working life, than someone with just a degree.
Our professional qualifications include ACCA and CIMA-accredited accountancy courses, the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) certificate and diploma, Subject Knowledge Enhancement courses for teachers and a wide range of professional development programmes for healthcare staff.
Our postgraduates have gone on to work in senior roles with such big-name companies and organisations as Jaguar Land Rover, Ernst & Young, Norwich Union, Network Rail, General Electric, Capgemini, DHL, the Metropolitan Police Authority, Oracle Corporation, Motorola, the Crown Prosecution Service, NEC Group, the BBC and Goldman Sachs.
