Research at BU

BU Students Research is a vital component for underpinning a high-quality curriculum and for maximising our contribution to regional and national economies. Eight of our subject areas produce world-leading research based on its originality, significance and rigour.

Our highest rated centre of excellence is the National Centre for Computer Animation (NCCA) situated in our prestigious Media School. The NCCA was rated 5 – the highest score given by the Art and Design Unit of Assessment.

BU is also home to the internationally renowned Centre for Intellectual Property Policy & Management (CIPPM). The CIPPM has rapidly achieved an international reputation for its policy research, and its consultancy projects in particular with emerging and transition economies.
Facilities and resources

BU offers modern lecture theatres, seminar rooms, dedicated laboratories and computing centres - available 24 hours a day. The University is very proud to be at the forefront of technological innovation in Higher Education and benefits from one of the most extensive wireless computing networks of any UK university.

Always innovative in embracing technology, BU's library service is recognised as a leader in the provision of electronic information and its integration into the fast growing Virtual Learning Environment. The University is also currently in the midst of a major investment in both academic and residential facilities to ensure that the living and learning experience of all BU students is enhanced even further.

Specialised facilities within Academic Schools reflect our commitment to providing first-class resources, including purpose-built studios for computer animation and digital special effects; recording studios, editing suites and a new high-tech television studio; a Prototyping and Virtual Manufacture centre and Rose Cottage - a unique 'crime house' used in the education of forensic students.

Our Executive Business Centre (EBC) has become a focal point for the local business community, and an ideas exchange for the region. It features a contemporary design, cutting-edge conference facilities, the very latest in Information and Communication Technologies. The EBC houses the Business School's postgraduate portfolio, including our flagship course, the Bournemouth MBA.

Socially, BU's Students' Union is one of the liveliest in the country and the Old Firestation is one of the UK's greatest student night clubs. The student support network extends from financial advice, student counselling and the chaplaincy to other student-focused services, many of which are available 24 hours a day.

Dedicated modern accommodation is available for postgraduate students, within easy access to Bournemouth and Poole town centres and both campuses.
