Made up of five academic schools, the Cardiff School of Art & Design; Health Sciences, Education; Management and Sport; UWIC specialises in courses that are career orientated and which have been designed in conjunction with business and industry.

Cardiff School of Art & Design

At the heart of creativity in Cardiff for over 140 years, the Cardiff School of Art & Design is host to a wide variety of exciting postgraduate programmes and research activity and actively seeks to collaborate with academic and industry partners. We engage with cutting edge design technologies and material arts, as well as fine arts, and the history and theory of art and design.

Cardiff School of Education

The Cardiff School of Education provides an educational centre of excellence. Located at Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC)'s Cyncoed Campus, the School has over 2000 students supported by over 100 academic and administrative staff. The School is divided into three Departments, Teacher Education and Training (TET), Humanities and Professional Development. Together, these three Departments offer a wide range of programmes at postgraduate level.

The School is now in its 60th year of TET provision in Cardiff and the provision remains the largest in Wales and one of the largest centres for TET in the UK. It has established an enviable reputation for quality that has been publicly recognised by Estyn through its inspection process.

Cardiff School of Health Sciences

The Cardiff School of Health Sciences at Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC) is a major provider of postgraduate education and research in Health Sciences in Wales. It is widely accepted that health care students are best educated in a research rich environment. The School has a vibrant research culture, with over sixty research degree candidates in disciplines across the School and our courses are informed by the latest research in the field. Cardiff School of Management

The Cardiff School of Management at Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC) is one of the leading centres for MBA learning in the UK university sector, with over 2,800 students in total studying across all subject disciplines.

Autumn 2010 saw the opening of the brand new, state-of-the-art Management building at the Llandaff Campus; enabling the school to become a leading centre in the UK for teaching and research in subjects including business, hospitality and tourism. Cardiff School of Sport

Cardiff School of Sport, with its 60 year history, is a recognised centre of excellence in the UK. It has established a national and international reputation for the quality of its academic, sporting and research work and provides some of the most popular and contemporary postgraduate sport degree courses in the UK. The Cardiff School of Sport has a postgraduate community of over 200 students.

The Cardiff School of Sport is committed to establishing itself as a research and enterprise centre to support the development of sporting excellence in Wales and the UK.

Research

Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC) engages in research that is at the interface of new knowledge creation and its application. The research, therefore, has direct application in business, industry, the professions and the community at large.

We can provide opportunities to undertake supervised research programmes which lead to the awards of Master of Philosophy (MPhil) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Your study may take place entirely at Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC), or at your place of work, or a combination of both.

Facilities

We offer facilities of the highest standard to our students and staff. Across all campuses we offer first class libraries, learning centres, dedicated research spaces, print studios and support services. Our aim is to provide students with a safe and supportive learning environment.

Autumn 2010 saw the opening of a brand new, state-of-the-art, Cardiff School of Management building and a brand new Learning Centre at the LLandaff Campus. The £4.9m Food Industry Centre at Llandaff and a state-of-the-art student centre at the Cyncoed campus also opened in 2009.

Student facilities, learning centres and the provisions within Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC) are constantly being updated and reviewed to make sure student satisfaction is not just met but exceeds expectation. Library users have direct access to an overall stock of approximately 270,000 books and 1,000 journals. We also run the Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC) Rider, a dedicated bus service, running between halls of residence, teaching campuses and the city centre.

Llandaff and Cyncoed provide excellent sporting facilities for those who want to stay in shape.

Postgraduate funding

Postgraduate scholarships

Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC) offers a 'Postgraduate Scholarship' to applicants from the UK or EU, studying a Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC) taught masters programme. Students should be privately funded and must have obtained a first class degree. The scholarships are currently set at a maximum of £3,000 for 2011 Entry.

There are also course specific scholarships available for certain postgraduate programmes.

Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC) offers a number of doctoral scholarship schemes designed to offer opportunities for postgraduate study in a range of disciplines.

Sports scholarships

A 'Sports Scholarship Programme' also operates at Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC) supporting the development of elite performers in a range of sports.

The aim of the Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC) Sports Scholarship is to assist students of exceptional sporting ability to develop their academic and sporting talents to their full potential, and therefore to encourage the development of university sport. This can be up to £1,000.

The scholarship is open to all students regardless of what course they are studying at Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC) as long as they are competing or have the potential to compete at international level.

Other funding

Many organisations offer funding awards and sponsorship for research.
