Research capabilitiesCurtin has established four areas of research strength: health, information communication technology and emerging technologies, minerals and energy, and sustainable development. The multidisciplinary and collaborative native of Curtin's research programs is made possible not only by the University's solid research partnerships with industry, but also by the diversity of high-impact research centres and institutes. In 2010, the Australian Government conducted an Excellence in Research survey of higher education institutions throughout the country. At the four-digit Field of Research level, Curtin achieved ratings of four and five-above and well above world standard-for analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, geochemistry, geology, curriculum and pedagology, medical microbiology and cultural studies. Overall, Curtin achieved world standard or higher rankings in 20 discipline groups. For more information, visit our research website. Curtin Business SchoolCurtin Business School (CBS) is one of the largest and most innovative business schools in the region. With 21 single majors and over 54 double majors within the Bachelor of Commerce program, CBS offers courses that are flexible, relevant and tailored to meet the needs of our rapidly changing business environment. The school is home to innovative facilities such as the CBS Trading Room, the only facility of its kind at any Western Australian university, and Curtin Business Club. Science and EngineeringScience and Engineering is one of the largest faculties within Curtin, with students enrolled in more than 200 courses at levels ranging from bachelor to doctorate. These include major areas such as engineering, agriculture, computing, mining, physics, chemistry, and mathematics education. Educating the oil and gas professionals of the future, Curtin's petroleum engineering courses prepare students for a career in the upstream petroleum industry. Programs are offered at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, with graduates immediately employable in the industry due to a global shortage of qualified petroleum engineers. Bolstered by strong industry links, professional recognition, course relevance and fascinating local geology, Curtin's geosciences courses benefit from investments into student facilities, including the contemporary new Spatial Sciences Studio. Recognised for its sophisticated geosciences programs in the 2010 Excellence in Research for Australia survey of Australian higher education institutes, Curtin achieved the highest possible ranking for the earth sciences discipline overall and for the sub-discipline of geology, indicating outstanding performance well above world standard.
Health SciencesCurtin has one of the largest and most comprehensive health science facilities in the Asia-Pacific region, educating more health professionals than any other university in WA. The Faculty of Health Sciences offers many courses that are accredited nationally and internationally recognised, and is committed to providing extensive practical experience for students in real settings such as private practices, hospitals and specialist clinics. With a recent A$9 million investment into occupational therapy teaching and learning facilities, the faculty is the first in Australia to introduce an interprofessional curriculum that approaches each discipline holistically rather than individually. HumanitiesCourses from the Faculty of Humanities are applied, creative and relevant to contemporary society. The faculty caters for students interested in areas of study such as social sciences, architecture, design, mass communication, teaching, Asian languages, English, social work, art, construction, records management, library studies and multimedia design. Students have access to excellent facilities, including an on-campus theatre, art gallery, student newspaper, radio station, and film and television studio. |
