research, with a strong profile across a range of disciplines. This is supported by results in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise. Overall 43% of research activity was rated as world-leading (4 star), or internationally excellent (3 star). Innovative projects merge areas including music and software design, or architecture and energy efficiency. Other research crosses traditional boundaries, such as designing new hospital wards, sustainable retail design, and developing local and national health policies. Particular strengths have been identified in the cultural and creative disciplines (60%), architecture (65%) and civil engineering (70%), whilst in English language and literature, DMU ranks amongst the top institutions in the UK. Industry standard facilitiesDe Montfort University's continued investment in facilities allows you to benefit from our industry-standard equipment and the most advanced technology. This has resulted in landmark buildings and professional facilities, including; the Hugh Aston Building for Business and Law, the Creative Technology Studios, fashion and textile workshops and computing and engineering laboratories. The Kimberlin Library is open 24 hours a day, and three learning zones offer quiet space to study, practice presentations, and make the most of your learning. Study facilities are also exclusively available to postgraduates in the Hugh Aston Building and the Clephan Building. Other recent campus developments have seen the opening of a state-of-the-art leisure centre, leisure centre, a new student health centre and full pedestrianisation in the centre of the campus.
