Flexible options to fit your lifestyle

We realise that not everyone is able to attend university full-time or follow a standard academic calendar. Our courses don't just begin in September - if that doesn't suit you, we also have options for a January start.

Many of our courses offer flexible learning options such as part-time, distance-learning, or a combination of methods known as blended learning. Our research degrees may start at any time throughout the year.

As well as set courses, we also offer Customised Masters Programmes. These allow you to study modules from different subject areas, creating a personal course which best suits your career aspirations.

"At Edinburgh Napier University I believe I have found the passion for a particular topic that I wish to dedicate the rest of my career to and, for me, that's the greatest achievement of all."

Maria Gauci, MSc Drug Design & Biomedical Science

The UK-wide 2008 Research Assessment Exercise reported that many areas of Edinburgh Napier's research are world-leading or of international excellence.

"I find Edinburgh Napier very forward looking, not only in academic terms but also in professional and personal development. Edinburgh Napier links studying with the real world, which is what business is all about. It has an international focus and, for me, the global connections are irreplaceable. Other universities simply can't offer such international ties - these are very unique."

Vicky Khunapramot, PhD Business of Art

"Edinburgh Napier University has afforded me opportunities that I would not have had anywhere else. The research that I am undertaking is unique and the findings will be of major relevance to commercial timber frame housing manufacturers. I have the opportunity to learn within industry which is a huge benefit for me and my research."

State-of-the-art facilities

Edinburgh Napier is a multi-campus university. As part of our £100m investment in estates, our Sighthill Campus was redeveloped into a state-of-the-art, modern, sustainable and purpose-built facility for the Faculty of Health, Life & Social Sciences. It has been designed to create a great learning environment, to help you graduate with the best possible career prospects. It also houses [EN]GAGE, the University's sports complex.

Our campus at Merchiston is undergoing a £10m co-location project. This will be the new home of the School of Arts & Creative Industries and will incorporate new sound-proofed music studios. Our Craiglockhart campus, home of The Business School, received a £30m extension and refurbishment in 2004.

Merchiston's 500-seat Jack Kilby computing centre is open 24/7, and students also have access to online lecture notes and study aids from anywhere in the world. Each campus has a fully networked library, and we also offer a multimedia language lab and adaptive technology centre for students with special needs.

Edinburgh: Scotland's inspiring capital

Edinburgh is a vibrant place to live with four universities that attract around 100,000 students - giving the city its own unique buzz. It is regularly voted 'Favourite UK City' by Conde Naste and Guardian/Observer readers (the latter for 12 years running!). The quality of life in the city region is endorsed by its residents who registered 92% satisfaction, the highest of any city surveyed in a 2006 MORI poll. And Location, Location, Location agree, naming this UNESCO World Heritage site the best place to live in the UK.

Edinburgh manages to celebrate its vibrant history while embracing all that's contemporary thanks to its 12 major festivals and numerous cinemas, theatres and arts venues. It boasts:

  • 1,037 hectares of parkland - equivalent to 4,500 football pitches
  • Over 200 cafes and restaurants
  • The medieval Royal Mile, and
  • 100+ libraries, including the National Library of Scotland

"I chose Edinburgh Napier for two reasons. Firstly, because I like the city of Edinburgh and the culture of Scotland; it is a nice city and the people are kind. Secondly I respect the reputation Edinburgh Napier has for helping graduates to get a job - 93 per cent have a job within six months."

Zizhen Wang, MSc Business Information Technology
