LCC is renowned for its practice based approach. Tutors have extensive industry expertise and there is access to excellent facilities and specialist industry-standard equipment. The College's photographic and television studios, darkrooms, gallery space, sound design and interactive media suites, broadcast and print newsrooms and printing studios provide an exciting 'live' environment for hands-on experimentation and research. Housing the Kubrick, Knightly and Eckersley Archives, the College also offers an invaluable teaching, learning and research base.

Strong links with industry means that postgraduate students of LCC benefit from opportunities to collaborate in a range of projects and to engage with leading industry players.

Award-winning Media

The School of Media challenges students to explore and navigate new creative directions that have the potential to reshape and impact on ways of communicating, seeing and representing the world. LCC is one of the largest providers of practice-based media education and related subjects in the UK.

The ethos of the School is learning by doing. Our students have won many international awards for their work. In the last year these include Dazed/Converse Emerging Artists, Magenta Flash Forward Emerging Photographers and the World Press Photo Daily Life Singles category, Young Lions, Cannes, D&AD UK and The One Show New York.

Tutors have extensive industry experience, with many working concurrently in media and education. Students of postgraduate journalism work with investigative programmes like the BBC's Panorama. The college has close links with leading professionals who often act as associate lecturers or give specialist classes or talks. The School also hosts the prestigious annual Hugh Cudlipp Lecture and Award and previous speakers have included Jon Snow, Lionel Barber, Michael Grade, Paul Dacre and Alastair Campbell.

Alumni of the School are working around the world from Hollywood to Bollywood; from the National Gallery to the Elevator Gallery; from the BBC to Al Jazeerah. Some work in big corporations, some are freelancers and some work in academic sectors.

LCC has a proud design heritage and it's this together with a commitment to remain at the forefront of developments in industry that gives LCC's postgraduate design programmes their world class reputation. Building upon expert course provision in typography, printing, graphics, spatial design, and interaction, the college has developed a curriculum where traditional skills meet the latest digital advances and where learning is about intellectual engagement, discovery, interaction and change.

Innovation is at the core of the work in the School and, as it looks to the future, it is constantly exploring opportunities for interdisciplinary and hybrid approaches to design. Through forward thinking courses, grounded in the traditions of drawing, craft, theory, criticism and practice, we encourage students to engage with the contribution they will make to the social, cultural and economic well-being of wider communities.

All course tutors are actively involved in scholarly investigation and/or related, professional practice which has enabled the School to develop and sustain strong relationships with industry. Supported by our alumni and strong links with the professions, we aspire to excellence in design practice and the transferability of skills, which have the potential to create sustained employment and lifelong learning beyond graduation.

LCC's design alumni have gone on to found some of the world's leading design agencies such as Pentagram, BBH and M&C Saatchi.  Many iconic designers started their careers at the College including Tom Eckersley and Neville Brody, Dave King famed for his Time Out covers, David Hillman, who redesigned the Guardian newspaper;  Simon Clowes, an Emmy-award winning film and TV graphics designer and Lynda Brockbank, known for her design that aspires to societal change, to name a few.

LCC has industry standard photographic and television studios, darkrooms, interactive media and animation suites, broadcast and print newsrooms as well as specialist printing, printmaking, bookbinding and letterpress workshops and extensive exhibition space,

Student Life and the advantages of studying in central London

Based on a single site in the centre of London, renowned for its concentration of key media and design companies, LCC is well positioned to open doors to the creative industries.

The College has a vibrant student community, with nearly 5,000 students from a mix of diverse backgrounds, attitudes and interests that makes for original collaborations.

LCC is close to London's renowned galleries and cultural institutions such as Tate Modern, the Design Museum and South Bank and there are innovative artist's communities to tap into outside the College around Shoreditch, Hoxton and Brick Lane.

By Train: The Elephant and Castle site is connected by Thameslink trains from Blackfriars

By Underground: Both the Bakerloo and Northern Lines stop at Elephant and Castle. The College is opposite the shopping centre on the same side of the road as the Metropolitan Tabernacle, just three minutes walk away via the underpass.
