Murdoch University is one of Australia's leading research universities, with a national reputation for excellence in teaching and student satisfaction and a five-star rating for graduate satisfaction in the Good Universities guide, which we have achieved 13 times.

Murdoch was established in 1973 as a research university. It is approximately 20 minutes by car (15 kilometers) from Perth's City Centre and 10 minutes (8 kilometers) from the port city of Fremantle.

At Murdoch, we have more than 18,000 students and 1400 staff, including 2000 overseas students from about 90 different countries. That's more than 19,400 unique stories, backgrounds and ways of thinking that help us to make a difference in the world.

Our University also has award winning teaching facilities that assist in giving you hands-on experience, these include:

  • Purpose-built $3.7million law building, including electronic moot court and law clinic. In its first five graduating classes Murdoch Law School produced a Rhodes Scholar, a Fulbright scholar, a Lionel Murphy scholar and several winners of the Rotary Graduate Fellowship.
  • Murdoch University is one of only four educational institutions in the world to have a state-of-the art engineering pilot plant.
  • Murdoch University's Veterinary Science course was the first veterinary course in Australia to achieve American Veterinary Medical Association accreditation. It is also accredited with British Veterinary Association and Australasian Veterinary Boards Council. The University also hosts a veterinary hospital, 24-hour clinic and is the only university in Australia with a large animal farm on campus.
  • Murdoch is home to a state-of-the-art Media Arts Centre, which boasts facilities such as two digital TV studios, a news room, a print journalism space, radio studios, video edit suites, recording studios, surround sound suites and much more.
  • Murdoch has an Environmental Technology Centre on campus, which is the United Nations Environmental Programme International Environmental Technology Centre (UNEP-IETC), Asia Pacific Cooperation Research Centre. Murdoch was one of the first universities in Australia to offer Environmental Science.
  • In October 2010 Murdoch launched it's After Hour Student Assistance Line aimed to support international students at the university. The first of its kind in Australia, the Student Assistance Line is a valuable way Murdoch University extends its services to international students.

The International Discoverers' Scholarship Scheme is designed to make study at Murdoch University more affordable in the current economic climate. Murdoch University would like to ensure that in uncertain global economic times, where never seen before currency fluctuations are taking place, that an international education experience is made more affordable for prospective international students.

The scholarship scheme applies to a wide range of Murdoch courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. Depending on the course selected, the scheme allows for a reduction in annual course fees, by between AUD $500 and AUD $5,500.

Getting an education is one of the most important decisions you will make, and an excellent standard of teaching is a key factor determining where you will choose to study. As a highly ranked teaching campus, Murdoch can certainly offer you the best education possible. But, teaching is not the only key factor.

Where you live, the friends you make and courses you study are just as important to the University as they are to you.
