Northumbria University facilities

Fees and funding

Fees vary depending on which taught course area of research you are interested in studying. Here at Northumbria, we endeavour to keep charges and fees to the minimum required to preserve the quality of our programmes, and these will normally only increase in line with inflation.

Fees for UK and European students

Tuition fees per year for taught courses range from £700 to £14,475*, depending on the length, mode and programme of study. Research fees for MPhil and PhD programmes range from £1666 to £9200 depending on length, mode and subject. (NB. Fees for Professional Doctorate programmes should be obtained from individual Schools). Fees for international students

Visit our website to find out more about international fees and scholarships. The fees cover the majority of courses but there may be variations. For specific fee information for your course, please contact the International Office on +44 (0) 191 227 4274.

Funding for UK students

With the exception of PGCE students, most postgraduates are self-funding. There may be a small number of grants available, but grants for postgraduate programmes are awarded on a national and competitive basis.

The main sources of financial support for postgraduate students from England and Wales are the studentships offered by the Arts and Humanities Research Board and the central Government Research Councils. Students from Northern Ireland, Scotland, the Isle of Man and Channel Islands should apply to their respective education authorities for details of funding opportunities.

Funding for European Union students

Students resident in an EU state may be eligible to apply to the British Academy and Research Councils, although the awards will normally only cover tuition fees.

Funding for international students

There are various funding opportunities available to International Students. For further information about schemes and sources of funding, students should consult their own government. The British Council may also be able to offer advice.
