MA Degrees

MA Communication Design

Communication design touches on every aspect of 21st century life. It is of fundamental importance to the way we relate to each other and our environment. This ideas driven, industry focussed course will support your intellectual curiosity and equip you with the relevant skills to become an outstanding practitioner in the international design community.

MA Curation

This MA is distinctive in that it will attract applicants who are creative practitioners and historians of art, design and media as well as those from a humanities or even a science background, who have an interest in communicating visually through traditional and alternative spaces.

The course team views 'curation' in its widest sense, and will support you in bringing together objects, still and moving images and/or texts in a coherent, contextualised and critical whole. The resulting 'exhibition' may encompass a range of public outcomes from gallery-based displays to film programmes, public art and open access archives.

MA Fashion

Achieving innovation in contemporary fashion design requires creativity driven by technical excellence. The MA Fashion at NUCA emphasises the strong interdependence between creative skills, craft technique, attention to detail and refinement. With a focus on preparing you both intellectually and professionally for employment, the course supports students who aspire to become leaders in their chosen field within the creative industries.

A thorough understanding of technical skills such as pattern cutting, bespoke tailoring, haute couture, draping, garment construction and hand and machine finishing techniques are the hallmark of this professionally focused degree which responds to the requirements of the industry. www.nua.ac.uk/mafashion

MA Fine Art

Fine Art at NUCA provides a stimulating and creative environment to help you challenge and define your practice within the context of professional and contemporary possibilities. The course will support you to develop and enhance the skills you require to generate an art practice of high quality.

MA Fine Art will enable you to engage in a range of studio practice and students may elect to specialise in or combine areas such as painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, installation, photography, moving image and sound work and there is potential for students to work collaboratively as well as individually. www.nua.ac.uk/mafineart

MA Moving Image and Sound

The media industries are driven by high energy creative thinking and the potential of evolving technologies. The course is responsive to these industry expectations and will equip students with the professional, practical and conceptual skills to engage in a range of employment possibilities.

MA Textile Design

Textile Design is a future-focused and diverse discipline grounded in traditional crafts. The MA Textile Design course at NUCA concentrates on the fusion of creativity, craft skills and technological innovation, with students being encouraged to stretch the boundaries of the discipline through their creative engagement with materials, processes and concepts.

The course encourages entrepreneurship and innovation, enabling students to consider their practice and the discipline of textiles in a wide context of production and consumption from bespoke artefact to commercial enterprise.
