The University of Cumbria was created in August 2007, through the amalgamation of existing HEIs in the county, as an agent for transformational change in the educational, social, cultural and economic life of the region. As such, the university has high aspirations for its students, its communities and itself.

Location

With campuses in Carlisle, Newton Rigg, Penrith and Lancaster and a specialist teacher-education centre in London, the university offers postgraduate programmes across its three faculties.

Background

Offering a very high quality learning experience in a supportive environment enabling students to achieve their personal and professional potential wherever they study, the university is committed to learning which is innovative, flexible and student centred and which utilises the latest technology. The university also works closely with employers, schools, colleges and agencies in the region to offer research, scholarship and knowledge transfer excellence which shapes and supports social, cultural and economic development in support of the inclusion sustainable communities agenda. The University of Cumbria celebrates that its graduates will be creative, enterprising and resourceful and equipped to lead in their fields and in their communities.

Resources

With excellent resources and facilities, some, as in the case of radiography, amongst the most advanced in the UK, the university is able to prepare its postgraduates students for employment in the real world – they hit the ground running saving employers the costly process of induction.

Programmes

Conventional, taught, postgraduate programmes are available along with degrees by research. Within the education faculty, subject knowledge enhancement courses, colloquially known as conversion courses, are offered in those teaching areas which currently suffer from a scarcity of qualified professionals.

Student support

Any advice or guidance you might need on a wide range of issues, from childcare provision to budget planning; counselling to careers advice; and disability support to academic skills development - is available from our one-stop-shops on each campus through which you can access highly trained and dedicated staff who can help you to maximise your potential while at university and beyond.
