University of Dundee |
We are an established university with a progressive and dynamic outlook. Never complacent, we constantly strive to build on our achievements: investing in excellent facilities, pushing the boundaries of research, and developing new ways of e-learning. We are home to nearly 18,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students, with approximately 20% coming from countries in the EU and overseas. The roots of the University go back to 1881 when University College, Dundee, was founded. In 2007, the University celebrated 40 years since it became independent after a 70 year relationship with the University of St. Andrews. The University is made up of 4 academic Colleges - Art, Science and Engineering; Arts and Social Sciences; Life Sciences; and Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing. Campus in the CityThe University of Dundee enjoys an unrivalled position in the centre of Dundee, close to the shops, theatre and transport links, and with outstanding views over the River Tay. The past decade has been a particularly exciting time of progress and change - since 1994 the University has more than doubled in size and in 2008 we completed a £200m campus redevelopment. This included
Our compact City Campus is a mix of very modern and very traditional buildings, all equipped with the latest technology used in teaching. It is easy to get around with teaching and social areas (accommodation, sports facilities and students' union) all within a short walk of each other. We also have campuses for our School of Medicine at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, and our School of Nursing and Midwifery also has a campus in Kirkcaldy, Fife. Campus Resources
With the recent investment we have developed a 21st century campus to provide our students with the resources and support required for the best student experience possible. This includes providing over 600 generally available PCs on campus, specialist computer labs in subject areas, wireless access to the internet, IT access in most University accommodation and IT teaching to support your degree. Our seven library sites offer students flexible learning spaces, access to specialist subject librarians, access to the wireless network and laptop charging points, extensive electronic resources including e-books and e-journals, and of course, access to more than 1 million books and subscriptions to over 4000 periodicals and journals. We also offer a range of academic and personal support services to all students who require it. World Leading ResearchThe University of Dundee has an international reputation and continues to attract top-class researchers from across the world in subjects as diverse as medicine, life sciences, dentistry, law, microelectronics, fine art and design, digital media, and space exploration. We attract an average of £55 million of research funding annually, and our research quality has recently been assessed as world leading across a broad range of disciplines (including arts, humanities, sciences and law).
