A leading choice for postgraduate study

Nottingham offers over 300 taught postgraduate courses and a wide range of research opportunities spanning the arts, built environment, business, law and social sciences, education, engineering, medicine and health sciences, and science.

Research degrees are supervised by world-class academics, many of whom are internationally recognised in their fields. Taught programmes are informed by up-to-the-minute research findings, and delivered by research scholars at the forefront of the latest developments.

The University provides a range of support services to help postgraduates progress, including a dedicated Graduate School and an award-winning careers service, to which graduates have access for life.

World-changing research

The University is committed to research across all faculties and subjects, from the essential core disciplines through to less traditional subjects such as entrepreneurship. The focus is on interdisciplinary work and our state-of-the-art research centres bring together some of the finest minds from around the world and across disciplines to push traditional research boundaries.

The latest Research Assessment Exercise in 2008 found that 90% of Nottingham's research is of an 'international standard' and 60% is 'world-leading' or 'internationally excellent.' This performance helped the University attract over £150m in research funding from research councils, UK and EU governments, charities and industry in recent years.

Postgraduate research students play a hugely important role in contributing to and maintaining the momentum of the University's research activities. The University supports each student from the outset, by offering a personalised Researcher Development Programme, tailored to meet individual needs. The programme helps research students develop vital skills for their career - whether or not they choose to pursue academia. At Nottingham, postgraduates have the opportunity to gain teaching experience, present papers at conferences, and publish their work to begin to establish their name amongst academic peers.

Described by The Times as 'the closest the UK has to a truly global university', Nottingham has campuses in the UK, China and Malaysia which act as hosts to a genuinely global academic community in all three countries. The China and Malaysia campuses also provide opportunities for students to study overseas - the University's split-site PhD/MPhil programmes divide studies between the China and Nottingham campuses.

Nottingham is a founder member of Universitas 21, an international network of leading research-intensive universities, which work together to share knowledge and create opportunities through international collaboration.
