Whether you need advice on paying tuition fees, help finding an obscure book, access to the internet, a dentist, or language lessons, we have the technology, services and resources to ensure that your time with us is stimulating and productive.

There are five libraries based around the University to satisfy all of your academic needs. All of our campuses and halls of residence are equipped with state of the art computer facilities that are available to all students. If you have a disability, specific learning difficulty or chronic medical condition, we have specialist equipment and assistive technology.

Our industry-leading facilities include:

  • Flight simulator: The Southampton flight simulator is unique in the UK. Developed by students for students, it is a state-of-the-art facility that uses commodity-off-the-shelf technology.
  • National Oceanography Centre Southampton: One of the world's leading centres for the development of marine technology, NOCS provides large-scale infrastructure and support for the marine research community.
  • Wind tunnels: Southampton's wind tunnels are used for yacht design, sail design and aerodynamics testing. Superstars in the area, such as Adrian Newey, F1's most successful car designer, began their careers in our wind tunnels.
  • Wolfson Unit: The Wolfson Unit is one of the most respected marine design consultancies in the world, with clients including America's Cup teams and designers of yachts for the 2008/09 Vendée Globe race. The Unit is an Innovation Partner for UK Sport.
  • Broadlands Archives: The Broadlands Archives are an exceptional collection, shedding light on the unique history of the UK and its relations with its colonies and foreign powers. The 4,500 boxes of documents date from the sixteenth century to the present.

How to apply

Applications for taught and research programmes are made using our online application form.

To apply for postgraduate study you must satisfy the University's general entry requirements as well as any specific requirements for your chosen programme. Specific programme entry requirements are set out in the Key Facts section for each programme. For details of our programmes, see our Taught Courses and Research Programmes.

Fees and funding

As a postgraduate student you will need to pay annual tuition fees to the University for the taught course or research programme that you are studying. In addition to tuition fees, you will need to consider how to cover your living costs, including accommodation fees, study materials and social activities.

The estimated annual costs of living in Southampton are approximately £7,500 for a postgraduate student, £3,000 for a partner and £1,500 for a child. This includes accommodation, food, clothes, books and other personal expenditure.

For some courses or research programmes you may be able to apply for funding from the University or from external sources to cover your tuition fees and living expenses.
