Legal Practice Course (LPC) — Emma Earnshaw

Emma studied her LLB at the University of Leeds before doing the Legal Practice Course (LPC) at The University of Law (ULaw), Leeds

Why did you choose to study at ULaw?

I attended a Solicitor Insight Day run by ULaw while studying my LLB. I was very impressed with the employability team, and felt that their connections and extensive experience would aid me hugely in securing a training contract.

I was also keen to stay in Leeds to complete my LPC, and the city centre location of ULaw's Leeds hub is perfect in terms of accessibility and sociability.

What is the best bit about studying the LPC?

Aside from opening the door to qualification, ULaw has enabled me to realise the importance of the relationship between business and legal work. The tutors are always willing to discuss academic preparation, exams and career-focused goals.

What are you hoping to do after graduation?

I have secured a training contract at Irwin Mitchell. I have opted for the personal legal services stream, as I feel that this area is the one that I will enjoy most.

What advice would you give to others considering the LPC at ULaw?

Each year, ULaw hosts a legal sports day. I really enjoyed playing for the ULaw netball team, as this is a great way to meet and work with people outside of your class. I'd strongly recommend getting involved with additional activities to balance your studies.
