Master of Laws (LLM)
Maria is studying LLM International Business Law at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) to help broaden the knowledge that she gained from her undergraduate degree
Why did you choose to study at UCLan?
UCLan gave me the foundations and expertise that I needed to cope with my LLM. I haven't just gained a thorough knowledge of the law - I've also developed transferable skills that will enhance my employability.
I believe that UCLan is one of the UK's best universities. This is partly due to the academic staff - who are very friendly and always willing to help - but also because Preston is one of the country's safest and most beautiful cities.
Tell us about the course...
First semester modules include advanced legal systems, and law and policy of the World Trade Organization (WTO). The second semester includes advanced legal research and the dissertation.
The LLMs at UCLan don't include any exams, which reduces stress and pressure.
What has been the best bit about studying the LLM?
We're able to submit a short plan for every module (except the dissertation). The tutor then provides feedback, which corrects any mistakes and helps us to achieve higher grades.
What advice would you give to others considering doing a LLM?
The environment at UCLan is very friendly and you'll enjoy an excellent experience. I'd advise future UCLan students to make use of the excellent library and resources, and soak up as much advice as possible from the helpful tutors.
