Job description

The job covers a broad range of hydrogeological and water resources activities including, groundwater resource evaluation and development, hydrogeological impact assessment of major infrastructure schemes such as mines and tunnels; and groundwater control and dewatering.

Projects are UK based and international.

We are looking for graduate hydrogeologists to join our specialist groundwater resources team. Analysis, interpretation and presentation of data and report writing will be an integral part of the role.

The role will also involve field work such as water features surveys, borehole drilling supervision, pumping test supervision and monitoring.

Job responsibilities

We have a mentoring system which means that graduates work with other experienced members of the team who will guide them through their initial period working on live projects. Initially our graduate hydrogeologists are encouraged to gain as much site experience as possible. This site based role gradually transitions into taking more responsibility for interpreting data and preparing reports. All members of the team take an active role in client contact and commercial aspects of our projects. Health, safety and environmental considerations also underpin everything that we do.

Your initial role will be to support and assist more senior hydrogeologists with the completion of groundwater assessments for a variety of projects for public and private clients in the UK and overseas. Travel within the UK is likely, and overseas travel is possible once a sufficient level of experience has been gained.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Site work including collection of data and supervision of borehole drilling and testing
  • Collation of data into existing databases
  • Desk study evaluation of project hydrogeology
  • Contributing to reports and preparation of graphical and GIS deliverables
  • Management of time to maximise productivity
  • Involvement with and support to the groundwater team and other disciplines such as hydrology, flood, geotechnics, contaminated land and ecology

Working on projects primarily in the UK, with some support to overseas projects; responsibilities will include field data collection and observation; collation, analysis and interpretation of hydrogeological information and report writing. This will be for a wide range of clients and projects including UK Water Companies, onshore oil and gas companies, private companies such as bottled water suppliers and quarry operators. You will also be involved with major projects such as Thames Tideway Tunnel and HS2 where the groundwater team provides specialist support.

This is a fantastic opportunity to further your career, gaining valuable work experience, with a specialist hydrogeological team in an established consultancy.
