Specialist & Scientist Graduate Programme

Job description

During this three-year graduate programme you’ll be working within one of our Environment or Specialists Consultancy businesses. You’ll also develop core consulting techniques and tools to apply whilst working with our clients in the UK.

Working in teams of consultants you’ll be expected to own deliverables, liaise with clients, contribute and enhance your skillset.

You’ll be required to work on a range of environmental projects with extended periods working in either water, energy, environment, safety & industry (WEESI) business. This includes major infrastructure, heavy industry and urban regeneration projects that will expose you to a variety of challenging projects and technical specialists across the WEESI business.

As part of this, you’ll assist in the delivery of project-related tasks to meet budget, timeframe and quality targets as well as working as part of wider project teams undertaking environmental desk studies, site surveys and assisting with the delivery of technical assessments and reports.

For those Graduates working in Environment or Specialists areas within water teams, you will be part of 6 x 6-month rotations during the three years. As part of this rotation, you will have 45 hours per rotation in: - Programme & Project Management, H&S, Clients and Pursuits, Sustainability Proposition, Land Management Proposition and Development Services Proposition.

What we are looking for

an understanding of:

  • Hazard Identification;
  • As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP)
  • Fire Risk Assessment principles;
  • Fire dynamics, heat transfer and smoke behaviour principles in enclosed environments (particularly in undergrounds and tunnels);
  • Basic understanding on Active Fire Protection (AFP) and Passive Fire Protection (PFP) systems;
  • Basic knowledge on fire modelling simulation (using zone models such as CFAST and CFD-based models such as FDS or SMARTFIRE).

To be considered for programme you will need to be passionate about working in the Water, Energy or Environment sectors and be on course to achieving a minimum 2:1 in your degree. There is a broad scope of opportunity including but not limited to:

  • Landscape architecture
  • Noise consultancy
  • Environmental
  • Ecology

Degree disciplines considered applicable for these programmes include: landscape architecture, environmental with a focus on acoustic content. geotechnical engineering, environmental sciences, geography, chemistry, physics, biology, ecology, geology ,geoscience, applied mathematics, urban planning, transport planning and economics are all very much of interest.
