Job description

Job purpose
The main purpose of this role is to assume the responsibility for the safe, efficient and quality operation of packing or processing equipment, whilst ensuring all products are produced in line with both company and customer requirements. You will report into the Area Manager.

Aryzta operations are focused on a quality, efficient, safe and skilled manufacturing team, utilising the necessary resource for supporting functions within the business unit and group to aim and maintain a world class facility.

Essential tasks and duties
Recording information – Understanding and completing relevant documentation

  • Ensures that packing and/or processing paperwork is accurately completed in a timely manner
  • Ensures that packed and/or processed product is correctly labelled
  • Completes cleaning documentation when required

Process monitoring – Monitors the quality of the product and carries out quality checks

  • Carries out and records specified quality checks
  • Produces product in adherence to set parameters and QAS customer specification

Equipment knowledge – Ability to operate all functions of packing and Processing equipment

  • Can perform start-ups and shut downs of equipment
  • Awareness of safety features and controls
  • Able to set up labellers and flow wrappers with correct date coding or other information required.
  • Able to carries out film changes in a timely manner
  • Can identify issues with the equipment and adjust settings accordingly
  • Ensures continuous running
  • Can carry out effective high standard cleans and change over’s
  • Operation of any trained CIP systems
  • Able to perform basic maintenance as trained

Health, Safety and Hygiene - Ensures all Health, Safety & Hygiene procedures are followed

  • Maintains clean as you go policy at all times
  • Understands metal detection
  • Carries out safety checks before start up
  • Reports any defects to direct manager and engineers and follows company policy
  • Ensures that COSHH procedures are followed
  • Ensure safety of others, wearing or appropriate PPE and promotes a safety ownership culture with staff
  • Understanding of the HACCAP system operated within the Company and therefore understands the food safety risks and the controls in place to minimise these risks. The Team Leader has a responsibility to communicate appropriately on food safety issues

Team control – Organisation of staff duties

  • Organises staff breaks effectively to minimise downtime of equipment.
  • Delegates duties to ensure that equipment operation is maximised
  • Product information – Knows how to obtain required information for packing product
  • Understands the production plan and importance to adhere to timings
  • Able to understand any relevant products data sheets
  • Can read and understand the Julian calendar if required
  • Understands business labelling systems
  • Has a basic understanding of key Bakery topics where training is provided by the company E.g. Dough Quality, Dough Temperature and effects, De-tinning, Racking Up, Cutting Techniques, Proof quality-skinning time, levels etc

Managing performance – Achieves set targets

  • Meets running capacity
  • Achieves required labour efficiency
  • Meets waste targets

Stock control – Ensures sufficient stock is available for continuous running of equipment

  • Request required stock such as RM’s, film and box’s in a timely manner to minimise downtime

Working conditions
Working areas include some noise levels, fumes/chemical exposure/dust exposure and temperature variations. The nature of the business means seasonal fluctuations in work schedule / shifts and flexibility required. Can also include travel at short notice, length of stay, potential international travel if deemed necessary

Experience:

  • Good knowledge of the different types of packing and or processing machines
  • Completed training and be fully knowledgeable in the requirements of the production lines
  • Good communication skills across the shifts and interdepartmental areas
  • Ability to work alone or as part of team
  • Understand planning demands and timely deliveries

Physical requirements:

  • Lifting and associated weights, bending, twisting, and exposure to extreme temperatures, walking and standing for long periods
  • Average vision and hearing are sufficient
