Graduate Software Tester

Still recruiting throughout COVID‑19

Job description

Our people-centred culture, combined with our tech and data expertise makes us one of the UK's leading companies and a great place to start your career as a Graduate Software Tester.

We work in a fast-paced, agile environment, which means collaboration is vital. Our teams focus on different customer groups, products or services, which determines the team's technologies. The teams consist of Technical, Product and Delivery Leads, UX Designers and Researchers, Test and Data Analysts and Developers (Java/JavaScript/Python).

Our Software Testers form a crucial part of our tech community and help deliver market-leading products to our customers. They use various testing techniques including exploratory, cross-browser and non-functional, with a focus on the implementation of automated functional and non-functional tests and monitoring. As they deploy new code multiple times a day, tools such as, BackstopJS, Lighthouse, Jest, Espresso and Xcode UI tests help maintain quality and stability.

All of our graduates start their journey at our in-house academy. You don't have to be a car enthusiast to work here so we'll grow your knowledge of the automotive industry to truly understand our customers and what we do as a business. During your time in the academy, you will form a dynamic network of Graduate colleagues, and develop your coding skills in your squad.

Our blended approach to learning encompasses technical and commercial skills, so you can be sure your technical decisions will be customer-centric. As you progress through the programme, you'll help the external technical community through STEM Ambassador initiatives, mentoring and community hacks.

Join our virtual event on Wednesday 17 February to find out more about the role and assessment experience. Registration required via Eventbrite.

Benefits and more

Our graduate salaries start at £26,000, and we offer a flexible benefits package to support your health and well-being.You'll have 28 days holiday per year, and that's in addition to bank holidays and half day closures on Christmas and New Year's Eve. Our Aviva pension scheme offers between 5% to 7% employer contributions depending on the percentage you choose to contribute, and we provide Bupa healthcare cover for all of our employees.

Our employee assistance programme, share-save options and give as you earn schemes are just some of the other benefits on offer should you decide to join us.

Career development is something that we're passionate about at Auto Trader, and we all develop and learn things differently. Whether you attend an external conference, utilise a LinkedIn Learning license or choose one of our in-house masterclasses, there's something for everyone.

Our graduate programme starts in both June and October 2021, and you can state your preference on the start date as you move through the recruitment process.

What we are looking for

We believe that curiosity is an intrinsic value amongst our Software Testers, so we'll seek to understand your interest in technology. You'll be a creative thinker, with a strong problem-solving ability and an eye for detail. Ideally, you'll have some coding experience with programming languages such as Java, Python, Matlab or JavaScript, or, will have a desire to learn and develop your skills in coding.

As an organisation, we've built a culture of learning, so we're eager to hear how you've complemented your studies and knowledge up until this point. You may have attended a university or community hack or enjoy working on technical challenges with friends, so we'd love to see your GitHub, portfolios or examples of your projects
