Graduate Trainee Insurance Underwriter

Job description

Avid Insurance Services Limited is a fast-growing insurance managing general agent specialising in providing niche insurance products across both personal and commercial lines. Due to expansion, we have an exciting opportunity for a graduate trainee underwriter, who can support the activities of the existing underwriting team in delivering an excellent service to all partners and colleagues.

Underwriting is at the core of the insurance industry and this role offers a great opportunity to begin your insurance career, learning about risk selection, pricing, data analysis and account management alongside completion of your CII qualifications. Initially you will learn the main underwriting criteria for each of our lines of business, building up your understanding of how we price, monitor and develop our insurance products, whilst ensuring that they fully meet the needs of customers.

Our data-focused, analytical approach means you will gain experience in analysing large volumes of data to understand trends and patterns, and how analysis can be used to calculate how a change in products or pricing might be expected to influence underwriting results.

Your communication skills will be put to good use, whether you are answering a technical query, assisting with the preparation and delivery of renewals, or presenting underwriting results either internally to the Avid team, or externally to an insurer or distributor.

What we are looking for

You must be a confident communicator, both verbally and in writing, and able to work as part of a team. You must be able to work to tight deadlines and demonstrate a high level of attention to detail.

You may have relevant experience acquired through previous employment, placements or internships, although this is not essential.

You should have achieved (or be on target to achieve) a 2:1 degree, ideally in business, law, economics or mathematics although other relevant subjects will be considered.

Accepted degree subjects

  • economics
  • law
  • mathematics
  • business and management studies
