At AWE, we’re here to protect the safety and security of the nation, and the 65 million people who live here. So please forgive us if we can’t tell you everything about what we do. Or everything about what you’ll do if you join us as an apprentice. But what we can say is this - you won’t find a career like it.
We offer a wide range of different schemes for you to choose from. Each one begins with a comprehensive induction, where you’ll learn about the business, our health and safety requirements and behaviours. If you’re on one of our engineering apprenticeship schemes, you’ll stay in the Skills Academy for the first 18 months - AWE’s own apprentice training centre – to learn all the basic skills needed for your trade. Then you’ll take part in a series of on-site placements, to put what you’ve learned into practice and further your development. On our non-engineering schemes you’ll spend your first two years working across both AWE sites on a range of placements. This will give you the opportunity to gain all the skills and experience you need to pursue your AWE career. Whichever scheme you join, you’ll use world-class technology and learn from industry-leading experts. And you’ll be part of an ambitious community of people, all paid to learn. If you successfully complete your apprenticeship, you’ll have gained a BTEC or City & Guilds technical knowledge qualification. You’ll also receive a nationally recognised Apprenticeship Completion Certificate, and deeds of completion from AWE.
Along with your salary you can look forward to regular pay reviews, and a permanent job at the end of the scheme. And, with structured and supported career progression, you’ll receive further education funding too. Other benefits include generous annual leave and a defined contribution pension.
