Job description

Aerospace Engineering will introduce you to a true breadth of aviation maintenance engineering activities, with a view to progressing in engineering or general management. Covering everything from aircraft systems, airworthiness and air safety management to human factors in aviation, it’s an interesting and diverse two-year learning experience.

Where you can join us
Places on our Aerospace Engineering graduate programme for Autumn 2018 are available in our aviation sector. All graduates in aviation relocate every six to twelve months, depending on the discipline. That’s why we ask that you’re ready and willing to move throughout your programme.

What you'll be doing
Over two years, you’ll undertake a range of placements within the Aviation sector. You might be involved in operations management or engineering operations. You may be monitoring aviation policy in line with industry regulation, or building knowledge on the training requirements within the business. Equally, you could be looking at compliance and Aviation safety management, procuring components or helping us bid for new contracts. The possibilities are incredibly varied.

Whatever you find yourself doing, you’ll be supported all the way. Mentoring from an experienced manager will mean you get the right guidance and advice from the very start of your career. We also place great emphasis on learning and development. You’ll develop technical knowledge in areas such as lean engineering and continuous improvement, while also building your leadership skills.

What you'll get out of it
The programme lets you see aviation from an engineering, customer, compliance, commercial, contractual and financial perspective. We’ll help you become an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer with a recognised professional engineering institution – and pay you a competitive starting salary of £28k-£30k while you’re doing it.* And after the programme, you’ll be firmly in line for several roles throughout Babcock.

*Depending on location, role and qualifications.

Person requirements

An honours degree in aeronautical engineering is vital. You’ll also need to have an understanding of the fundamentals of health and safety management and quality and compliance. Any knowledge of aviation maintenance or aircraft systems will be beneficial. You’ll also need to satisfy the MOD’s security requirements (and may need to complete a medical assessment.)
