Aircraft Engineering Technician Apprenticeship

Job description

Whether you want to continue your studies, change direction, study flexibly or access enterprise training while you learn, discover how our postgraduate courses can help you become unstoppable at our next Postgraduate Open Day.

Learn more about the University of Salford and your chosen course in a relaxed, drop-in environment. Attend a range of talks, Q&As, and tours – and get opportunities to speak to our tutors and current students.

Looking to kickstart a fulfilling career in aircraft maintenance? Our 5-year Aircraft Engineering Technician Apprenticeship programme will give you the experience and skills you need to work on emergency services aircraft.

Join an exciting aviation engineering environment dedicated to supporting helicopter emergency services. On this programme, you'll train to become a fully licensed engineer, responsible for the airworthiness of critical air ambulances that help the public when they’re most in need.

Your first year of training with us will include a 9-month residential course based at Kemble Airfield in Gloucestershire. Here you’ll learn both the theoretical and practical skills you need to work towards your Part 66 Category A licence.

Over the five-year programme, you’ll learn how to do maintenance inspections, component changes and repairs on a variety of aircraft. You’ll also learn about the many administration tasks associated with aircraft maintenance in addition to working on your communication skills, confidence and ability to collaborate with a team.

At the end of the programme, you’ll be ready to take the next leap in your career journey by applying for your CAA Pt.66 B1.3 licence – allowing you to delve into the world of rotary wing aircraft maintenance by becoming a fully licensed engineer.

What you’ll get

We will provide you with a supportive and engaging environment where you can grow your career. In addition, you’ll benefit from:

  • Fully funded qualification
  • Personal development training and opportunities
  • Minimum 28 days holiday allowance including bank holidays
  • Competitive pension scheme
  • Employee share scheme
  • Flexible benefits including cycle to work scheme and employee shopping savings portal

You’ll also have the chance to get involved in our STEM outreach activities and volunteering opportunities, which our apprentices find incredibly rewarding.

Your career development

It’s hard to beat the variety of fantastic opportunities and business experiences you’ll receive. You can expect real world encounters and exposure to exciting projects that will really help you navigate where you want to take your career.

Plus, when you join us, you’ll be automatically enrolled onto our Apprentice Development Programme. Through a series of digital and face to face sessions, presented by wellbeing and performance experts and our external partners, we will equip you with the knowledge and tools you need to thrive and perform at your very best on your programme and beyond.

Training

You’ll receive both practical and theoretical training in addition to the on-site training you receive at Kemble Airfield and Babcock’s Onshore facilities.
