Product Safety Engineer

Job description

Work at the heart of our business, ensuring complex and safety-critical products are safe and fit for purpose. Working at all stages of the product lifecycle, from identifying and analysing hazards, to developing robust controls and safety procedures, you’ll play a pivotal role in development, production and testing, as well as helping us to develop comprehensive safety management systems for entire platforms.

As a Product Safety Engineer you will be working in a team containing some of the country’s leading experts in the field of Safety Engineering and working on one of the most complex and high profile Safety Cases in the United Kingdom. You will be embarking upon a career which is intellectually demanding, stimulating and challenging, a career which will equip you with highly sought after expertise and a career which is ample with opportunities.

Follow your passion with the following responsibilities
A Product Safety Engineer can expect to be involved in activities regarding Safety Case architecture as well as detailed Safety Analysis of the engineering design using tools such as Hazard Identification, Fault Tree Analysis, Functional Hazard Analysis, Event Tree Analysis and many others.

The role of a Safety Engineer requires a unique mind-set in which the question to be answered is not how does it work, but how does it fail. To do this you will acquire an in depth understanding of the engineering design. This is a role which requires relentless intellectual effort in which subjective questions must be answered with a compelling argument supported by a body of evidence. Questions such as how can this piece of equipment or function fail, what would happen if it were to fail, what would be the consequence of its failure, how often will it fail, what safety measures are in place in the event of its failure, how often will the failure result in an accident, what is the risk associated with this failure, is the risk acceptable, has the risk been reduced to As Low As Reasonably Practicable.

Security/Export control
Please be aware that many roles working for BAE Systems will be subject to both security and export control restrictions.

These restrictions mean that factors including your nationality, any previous nationalities you have held, and/or your place of birth may limit those roles that you can perform for the organisation.

What we have on offer for you
Take your first steps in a career that challenges, rewards and evolves. At BAE Systems you’ll be working on exciting, world-leading engineering and business projects from day one. Our graduate scheme will prepare you with the skills you need to navigate challenges that bring others to a standstill. We will help you make the very most of your talents. We place great importance not only on what we do, but how and why we do it. We are passionate, collaborative, and take pride in work that helps our customers and communities. Working for BAE Systems, you’ll go home at the end of each day knowing what you do really makes a difference.
