Graduate Design Co-Coordinator

Job description

As a Graduate Design Coordinator youll get an opportunity to work on a variety of different projects, including new build and refurbishment/remodelling schemes across different sectors in both pre construction and construction stages of the projects. Your responsibilities will include:

To assist design teams in verification, validation and certification of designs, and ensuring compliance with Building Regulations and Employers Requirements (ERs), such as:

  • Compliance with Construction Design and Management Regulations and our Zero Harm initiative
  • Designs are in line with customer requirements and expectations using Reviewable Design Data process
  • Schedule of accommodation checks
  • Planning and other statutory requirements
  • Ensure delivery of design documentation in line with design programme:
  • Assist in Technical checking
  • Assist in change control
  • Assist in writing of submission text
  • Support in bid/tender proposals and feasibility studies
  • Collating drawings/submission material with transmittals to issue to teams
  • Dealing with enquiries from designers/supply chain/sub-contractors
  • Assist Design Manager in managing subcontractor design approvals
  • Liaising with Design Team members on approval matters
  • Monitoring and policing document control system:
  • Dealing with notices, actioning, ordering drawings and distributing.
  • Liaising with designers/sub-contractors and inviting them onto the system
  • Training designers/sub-contractors and other personnel on the relevant document management system with support from Document Controller
  • Liaise with internal and external construction and design staff

Youll have visibility in key areas of our business these could include multidisciplinary engineering, construction, safety and commercial and youll soon appreciate the important role of engineering innovation as well as the application of independent engineering judgement. Our aim is to develop your technical and leadership skills to help you reach your full potential.

The Balfour Beatty Graduate scheme lasts for two years; you will follow a development programme that will equip you with the skills needed to become a business leader of the future. Throughout the two years, youll be supported by your line manager and have the opportunity to attend graduate-based events, where you will work with your peers, develop interpersonal skills and share best practice. You will join a graduate cohort and be assigned Business Improvement and Corporate Social Responsibility Projects that can affect the way we work as a business.

What we are looking for

  • A flexible approach to work and able to adapt to change (you may be required to relocate as part of the programme)
  • A team focus with the ability to communicate and build relationships with a wide variety of people at all levels
  • A driven, self-motivated attitude, with the ability to work on your own initiative and influence key decisions

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a 2:1 BEng (Hons) or BSc (Hons) in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Ideally have experience within an engineering environment
  • Eligibility to work and live permanently in the UK
  • A full, clean UK driving licence
