Graduate Trainee Scheme (R&D Engineering)

Bowers & Wilkins are currently looking to recruit multiple graduates in the areas of: audio/electronics/engineering/project management/research and development to join the Research and Development team in Southwater, Horsham.

This graduate trainee programme is a great way to kickstart your career. You will get a closer look at how a global Research and Development department operates. This rotational role will interact closely with engineers from all disciplines; including mechanical, electronic, acoustic, software, firmware and mechanical/industrial design. You will actively contribute to meaningful projects and work with a mentor and senior leadership in order to enhance real-world experience.

At Bowers & Wilkins, you will work closely with the various technical teams at our Research and Engineering facility, to help project manage research and exploration projects, engineering work, prototype and pre-development work. Candidates should have a familiarity with project management in order to help plan technical work and resources accordingly.

  • This graduate training programme will last up to two years.
  • Expected start date: Flexible (Between June - September 2019)
  • Assistance with initial relocation costs to West Sussex will be given

What we are looking for

You should have a keen interest in audio, electronics and/or engineering.

If you have a hands-on approach to electronics, with at least the ability to read and understand electronics schematics and board layouts this role could be for you. Furthermore, experience using a soldering iron, operating oscilloscope scopes and other EE test equipment is desirable. As well as an understanding of enclosure and transducer designing, ideally with a working knowledge of COMSOL and the cad package.

Bowers & Wilkins are looking for individuals who are self-reliant with the ability to work well in teams and independently, using your own initiative with a strong work ethic and excellent attention to detail.

You must be energetic, have excellent interpersonal skills and eager to tackle new projects and ideas; results-oriented, extremely organised and structured with a positive attitude. Being a natural communicator with good listening skills and highly driven to achieve also make up some of the key personal attributes Bowers & Wilkins seeks. Any relevant work experience is advantageous.

Some experience programming with either Matlab, Python or programming for embedded systems would be useful and an understanding of fundamental ideas of signal processing: Fourier transforms, filter design, sample theory etc.

It would be favourable to have a basic understanding of the fundamentals of room acoustics, with knowledge of acoustic measurement techniques and how to interpret the data from such a system.

You must be willing to travel in the UK or overseas, all travel costs will be reimbursed.

Qualifications

We are looking for high calibre candidates who have recently graduated or will be graduating with a minimum of a 2:1 bachelor’s degree this year.
