Information Technology and Services (IT&S) Internship

Job description

Try a taste of technology and the future of energy

Find your future at BP
At BP we’re striving to meet growing global demand for safe, sustainable and affordable energy. Our industry is changing faster than at any time in our lifetime, driven in part by innovative technological advances. As one of the earliest major energy companies to move to the Cloud, we have the largest uses of public cloud in the industry and our use grows every day. We operate one of the largest private supercomputers in the country and are investing heavily in the next generation of networks, computing platforms, data analytics tools to unlock insights and new ways of working. As one of our summer interns, you’ll have the opportunity to experience directly the role of technology.

About the opportunity
This is your chance to gain an understanding of our business and the opportunities available within a global organisation that’s truly committed to your development and success. During the summer internship programme you will be assigned to one team but will have the exposure to the business, senior leaders and current graduates needed to make a decision about your future. You will also be assessed for your suitability onto the Technology graduate scheme. The scheme roles include Developer, Business Analyst, Security Incident Analyst, Risk and Compliance Analyst and Data Specialist.

Your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Working on projects and supporting your team to find the best solutions
  • Helping to maintain performance within your team and for BP as a company
  • Building relationships both within BP and with our external partners, collaborating across functions, segments and teams to deliver great work

Support and guidance will be on hand throughout the summer. Your learning is paramount, we’ll support your professional and technical development every step of the way. You’ll also be able to take part in other activities such as local community initiatives - we’ll give you both the encouragement and the time to join in.

We believe that our combination of learning, development and breadth of exposure to technology and business will give you the best experience of BP and truly transferable skills. The programme could even mark the start of a career with us.

What we are looking for

You should ideally have development skills in one or more of C++, Java, .NET, scripting languages (python, perl etc.) or XML plus knowledge of at least one object operational database. You will also have demonstrable experience of delivery using a broad set of technologies in an academic or business situation and a proven ability to work with real time or large complex data sets.

Beyond this, you’ll need to be a highly collaborative person who wants to work with others to tackle complex problems and drive real change. As a company that never compromises on values, ethics and safety, you’ll also need to be someone who’s committed to doing the right thing.
