On completion of officer training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, ETS Officers start their teacher training at Worthy Down, Winchester, where they enroll on the PGCE with Southampton University.
The first assignment will either be at an Army Education Centre or at the Army Foundation College (Harrogate). They will deliver professional development courses, which focus on the development of written and verbal communication skills, problem solving and analytical skills; instructor development, and offer more general advice about education pathways.
Subsequent assignments may be to a different Education Centre, a Phase 1 Establishment, where they will teach recruits, or on more bespoke courses which focus on Leadership development. After six-eight years and completion of the MSc ETS Officers can then progress on to training consultancy roles.
All ETS officers are British Army Officers first, and will have to pass officer selection and then undertake the 44 week, commissioning course at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

Qualifications and experience requirements
- In order to enroll on the PGCE with Southampton University, and subsequently be eligible to join the ETS you must hold a degree with honours.
