Graduate recruitment manager Craig Chitty discusses how Capita's accredited IT programme prepares graduates for a rewarding consultancy career
What do you look for in an employee?
At Capita our employees are at the heart of everything we do, and we know that our success is shaped by our most valuable resource - our people. We look for those with enthusiasm to succeed and the desire to contribute to the future of our vast and diverse organisation. Along with a degree, candidates will also possess excellent communication skills, will be able to articulate themselves and be a dynamic individual, with an interest in IT. It goes without saying that you'll need to have the passion to contribute to the world that Capita helps shape on a daily basis.
How can a graduate stand out?
We pride ourselves on having a diverse workforce, knowing that everyone is an individual. This enables us to provide dynamic and varied solutions for our clients. So while we won't ask you to change, candidates can certainly stand out by having some or all of the following: a great attitude, high enthusiasm towards all aspects of work, a suitable level of professionalism and strong attention to detail. Furthermore, your hobbies and interests along with relevant work experience are also a plus for your application; we want to know who you are as an individual.
How is the graduate programme at Capita structured?
Capita's accredited IT programme, Novus, specialises in developing individuals as the next generation of IT professionals. We invest our time and industry experience to train within exciting offerings for graduates, ranging from software development to software testing and business analysis. All of our streams begin with an industry accredited training programme where you'll gain relevant professional qualifications, so you'll see that Capita really invests in you from your first day. Following this, you will embark on a rewarding journey working as an IT consultant representing Capita on client sites across the UK. The programme provides you with the best of both worlds - industry relevant professional training and qualifications, as well as real-world experience working on projects that shape the world in which we live in.
What advice would you give to graduates wanting to work in the IT sector?
While a basic level of technical ability would be suitable, you certainly don't have to be the next Bill Gates. One thing that we feel is crucial for working in the IT industry, however, is an interest and awareness of the technology used to shape our world. Staying up to date with the latest news and social media around IT is always a good place to start.
