Trainee Support Programmer

Job description

An exciting position has arisen for a talented programmer to join an experienced support team. The role would suit candidates who enjoy working with people and are willing to investigate and learn on the job.

As a Trainee Support Programmer your primary responsibility will be to provide support and advice, problem diagnosis and resolution to clients via telephone, email and remote access.

Another key part of your role will be to design programs using Caché Basic to extract and correct client data, and to run those programs for clients.

Training
A period of acclimatisation and training will be necessary, all of which will be provided for the successful applicant. You may be required to work within other departments such as the Development and QA teams during the initial training period in order to enhance your knowledge and experience with our software.

Career progression
A successful Support Programmer can expect to be exposed to problems and implementation tasks of greater complexity, the goal being to become a highly effective and valuable member of the Support Services team.

What we are looking for

  • Experience in the fundamentals of accounting practice either at degree level or in a working capacity is not essential but would be an advantage
  • Of equal importance is the ability to communicate well at all levels, and to keep clear, concise records of analysis activity for query management and recording purposes
  • The successful applicant will have a desire to work with people, as well as software/systems and will be eager to help our users to overcome their problems and get the most out of the software we provide
  • This role will suit applicants who relish the opportunity to continue learning and aspire to develop a set of highly sought-after skills

Qualifications

The successful applicant will have recently graduated from university with a first or 2:1 degree in computer science, including programming.
