Job description

Do you have a passion for helping your local community? Are you interested in local government? We are looking for candidates for our award-winning Graduate Scheme.

The scheme will start in September 2018 and last for one year. The experience you gain will be invaluable and give you the opportunity to develop the essential skills you will need in future employment. It’s a great place to start when building the foundations of your career.

The scheme has been designed to give you a deeper understanding of the Council’s business operations, expose you to career opportunities within local government, and give you an insight into a fast paced, ever changing organisation.

You will be placed in two different service areas within the Council during your time with us, and be given the opportunity to undertake training to support your career development. Networking with a diverse range of people and groups, you’ll take part in the organisation and running of many events, as part of the Council.

If you have a particular interest in a specific service area or job role, please mention it on your application. We will endeavour to place you in the best service area for you.

One year fixed term contract.

Person requirements

We are looking for graduates or students completing their degree in 2018 who:

  • Are passionate about working in local government
  • Are looking for hands-on experience and genuine responsibility
  • Are able to generate ideas and offer a fresh, commercial perspective
  • Are able to work under their own initiative
  • Are able to confidently manage project work
  • Are able to prioritise their workload whilst maintaining a high standard of wor
